Cleaning & Replacing Filters –
Arctic Cool Water Cooler

Here's how to keep your cooler in top shape: regularly clean the hair filter and water filter, and replace them when necessary – so your water stays clean and clear.

Why Filter Maintenance Is So Important

Your Arctic Cool water cooler has two filters: a hair filter at the top and a water filter (cartridge) at the bottom. Both ensure that no dirt, hair, or particles enter the pump. If the filters become clogged, the pump has to work harder – and in the worst case, it can break down. Therefore: check and clean regularly to ensure everything runs smoothly.

🔌

Step 1: Disconnect power

Before you do anything to the device: pull the fuse. The easiest way is to press the orange button on the RCD. This way, the device cannot suddenly start while the taps are closed.

🚿

Step 2: Turn off the taps

Turn off the shut-off valves at the basin so that no water flows out while you remove the filters. No taps yet? A set of 2 with a seal is available for €15 in the Arctic Tub Shop.

💇

Step 3: Clean the hair filter

Unscrew the hair filter at the top of the device – by hand, without tools. Beneath it is a small sieve that catches hair and coarse dirt. Simply rinse it off and reinsert it. It's best to clean it after no more than 20 ice baths.

🧹

Step 4: Clean the water filter

Unscrew the water filter (cartridge) at the bottom of the device – also hand-tight only. Then rinse thoroughly with a garden hose. Let water flow into the fins from all sides until the dirt is out. Optional: soak it in filter cleaner beforehand.

⚠️

Important when inserting: Always tighten filters only hand-tight – never use the white wrench to tighten them. It's only included to loosen stuck filters. Overtightening can damage the seal.

Clean or replace filters?

In most cases, it's sufficient to rinse the filters thoroughly with water. It's best to use a garden hose for this – the stronger jet will help remove stubborn dirt from the fins. If a filter is already heavily discolored or clogged, you can soak it in filter cleaner beforehand. This will further dissolve embedded grease and dirt.

However, every filter eventually reaches the end of its lifespan. You can get replacement filters in our shop – simply remove the old one and screw in the new one. There is no fixed top or bottom for the cartridges – just align it straight and screw it in.

How often should I clean the filters?

This depends on usage. As a rule of thumb: you should clean the hair filter after no more than 20 ice baths. If it becomes clogged, the pump can no longer circulate the water properly – you'll notice this because hardly any water comes out of the return. It's best to clean the water filter (cartridge) at the same time as every hair filter check.

After installing the filters

Once both filters are back in: open the taps, put the fuse back in, turn on the device. Briefly observe if water is leaking from the filter housings. If so: just tighten it a little more. Usually, everything sits securely with hand-tightening.

💡

Tip: No shut-off valves?

Without taps at the basin, you can only clean or replace the filters during a water change – otherwise, water from the basin will flow out. With shut-off valves, you can carry out filter maintenance at any time without having to drain the water. Retrofitting is quick and definitely worthwhile.
